Spirit
Dragon Institute was originally
founded in 2000 as Shen Long Internal Kung Fu we changed our name in
2007 to help realize a broader vision and goal.
Mission
Statement
Our mission is to promote ,
research, and preserve Traditional Chinese Martial Arts, Qi Gong,
Healing, and Taoism. It is our belief that these ancient practices are
still very much relevant in todays modern society as a means getting in
touch with and staying in touch with the inner workings of the body,
as a means of exploring the relationship and interaction of the mind
and body, and as a way to explore and understand the natural world and
our place in it.
Our
Mission is to Promote,
Research, and
Preserve these Arts.
Promote:
Our goal is to promote these arts through classes, seminars, and
teacher training. We will also use this website to raise the
public knowledge and awareness of these arts.
Research:
Our goal as practitioners is to always keep an open mind and to
continue to learn. This is done through reflection upon our own
practice, reflection upon the arts that we study, and sharing any
understanding gained through reflection and study. Our goal to further
research these arts also includes continuing to
learn from accomplished teachers and exchanging with other
practitioners.
Preserve:
Our goal is to pass on and thereby preserve these arts for future
generations. This also includes training teachers, teacher
certification, and continuing education after certification.
Vision
My vision for the future is to build a Retreat Center in the
mountains of St. Croix (one of the three islands that make up the US
Virgin Islands). This goal is still a long ways off.
My dream is that this retreat center will be a beautiful place where
serious training and learning can occur. By offering seminars and
retreats throughout the year it is hoped that many people will be
introduced and benefit from the traditional practices that we promote.
I would also like to make the retreat center as
ecologically friendly as possible.
Some of the things I would like to incorporate:
ecological ideas:
- wind and solar power
- cisterns for catching water (with gravity feed
for water pressure)
- organic gardens to provide fruits and vegetables
- man made ponds for irrigation and natural beauty
accomidations and facilities:
- an Office/Administration
Building (with Internet access)
- an Open Air Training Facility
- a Lecture Hall
- a Meditation / Taoist Yoga
hall
- Outdoor Training Areas
- Walking paths
- Caribbean style Cottages for
accomidation
- a Mess Hall
- an Outdoor Hot Tub Area
